Leading Birge & Held's development, underwriting and investment activities, Tag's twenty years of real estate development and financing experience has driven its success. Birge & Held has completed over $600,000,000 worth of apartment acquisitions over the last 10 years and currently owns and manages 7,000 apartment units in the Midwest.
Graduating cum laude from Indiana University with a B.A. in Political Science, and receiving his J.D. from the University of Virginia, Tag practiced law as a real estate partner at Bose McKinney & Evans, LLP in Indianapolis.
Tag then entered real estate development as a Senior Vice President of Healthcare at Lauth Property and Group and developed approximately $200 million worth of real estate around the country.
Tag serves on the Board of Directors of Bowen Engineering, the Indiana Sports Corp Board, the Building Owner's and Management Association Board, the Penrod Society, and the Tindley School He is also Alumni President of the University of Virginia Law School Class of 1997.
With over a decade of real estate development and financing experience, Andrew has led Birge & Held to become one of the most active private equity apartment acquisition companies in the Midwest.
Andrew has been involved in commercial and residential development and financing since 2003. He graduated from Indiana University in 1999 (BA – History) where he excelled as a student-athlete and received academic all-American honors.
In 2002, he received his JD from the Indiana University School of Law and practiced at the law firms of Hackman Hullet & Cracraft and Bose McKinney & Evans. His practice areas focused on commercial and residential real estate development, handling acquisitions, leasing, financing and dispositions for many of the largest commercial development and construction companies in the United States. In 2007, Mr. Held received his MBA with a finance focus from Butler University.
In 2008, he co-founded what is now Birge & Held.
Adam joined Birge & Held in 2013, after being involved with commercial and residential development and property management since 2006. He currently monitors all cash positions and activity, maintains banking relationships, reports all financial and accounting matters, provides tax guidance and risk management services for all residential assets of Birge & Held.
He began his career at Dauby, O'Connor & Zaleski, LLC, a full-service accounting firm located in Carmel, IN, after graduating from Indiana University – Kelley School of Business (BS – Accounting and Finance).
Adam has worked closely with numerous real estate developers and property management companies throughout the United States. As a Manager at Dauby, O'Connor & Zaleski, LLC, he was responsible for coordinating audit, compliance, and tax consulting services for seven separate development and property management companies totaling over 200 projects each year which represented over $1,200,000 in annual firm revenue.
He is a current member of the Indiana CPA Society.
Clarke joined Birge & Held in April 2015 and has more than 10 years of industry experience working with and representing both individual and institutional real estate investors. Through the implementation of strategic management processes, an understanding of the market and effective leadership, Clarke works to achieve investor objectives including the repositioning of an asset, increased cash flow and/or value growth.
Prior to joining Birge & Held and the Midwest market, Clarke worked for both a REIT and 3rd party management firm based in South Florida and specialized in team building, new acquisitions, receiverships, capital improvement planning and execution, the repositioning of distressed assets, financial review, budget creation and lease up opportunities.
Clarke holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University, a graduate degree in Business Administration and the ARM designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). Clarke is also the Indiana Apartment Association 2017 Midwest Multi-Family Conference Chair.
Haley joined Birge & Held in February 2015, as their Director of Human Resources. She plays a pivotal and strategic role in the creation and maintenance of an organizational culture that enhances the mission of Birge & Held while promoting an inclusive and rewarding environment for the recruitment and retention of B&H's work force.
Haley previously worked as a Healthcare Recruiter for Community Health Network and managed the HR department for a small Indianapolis-based technology company. She received her BS in Health Administration from Indiana University, and recently earned the designation of Professional in Human Resources (PHR) through the international and national Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). Haley is also a Forbes Contributor and a member of their HR Council.
She consults and advises B&H leadership in addressing organizational and employee relations initiatives while ensuring that all HR activities and services are carried out and consistent with the overall direction and strategic plan of the organization. Haley is focused on enabling Birge & Held to be the best management company in the industry.
Larke Stuart is a passionate Human Resources professional who is continually seeking to learn, grow, and perfect her expertise in the field. Larke joined Birge & Held in 2017 as the Human Resources Assistant. While Larke is involved in a broad scope of human resources functions, her primary responsibilities include executing an efficient onboarding experience for all new hires, providing on-going support and fielding questions from employees, as well as carrying out payroll processes. Larke graduated from the University of Montana in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and went on to earn a Certificate in Human Resources Management from Purdue University in 2017. Larke is currently working towards a Master’s degree in Human Resources from the University of Indianapolis and expects to graduate in early 2019. Larke is a member of both the National Society for Human Resources Management as well as Indy Society for Human Resources Management. In her spare time, Larke enjoys taking leisurely bike rides around the city, playing intramural soccer, and exploring the arts.
Becky is a native of Central New York and relocated to Indianapolis to attend Butler University in 2003. From Butler University she earned her B.S. in Dance/Arts Administration before pursuing a professional ballet career with Louisville Ballet in Kentucky.
Prior to joining Birge & Held, Becky was Director of Client Services and Senior Accountant for an Indianapolis law firm specializing in estate planning.
In October 2014, Becky joined the Birge & Held team as the Accounts Payable Supervisor. Over the past three years, she has played an integral role in creating and implementing payables procedures for multiple software systems portfolio-wide.
Becky also works with lenders to request reimbursements from repair and replacement escrows, transferring millions of dollars to operating cash each year.
Becky will soon be transitioning into her new role as Senior Accountant and could not be more excited to expand her knowledge of current accounting processes beyond accounts payable.
Outside of the office, Becky enjoys teaching ballet and Pure Barre. She resides in Indianapolis with her husband, John, and two feline babies.
Aaron joined Birge & Held in February 2016. He has seven years of commercial real estate experience, including, office, retail and multifamily transactions. In total, he has been a part of more than 30 real estate transactions totaling over $500 million. As Birge & Held's Investment Manager, his role includes acquisition/dispositions, equity funding, investor relations and due diligence.
Before joining Birge & Held, Aaron was an analyst in the Capital Markets group at JLL. He focused on the valuation and underwriting of retail and office assets, the creation of asset disposition models and the production of offering packages for all investment opportunities.
Before joining JLL, Aaron spent four years at Simon Property Group as a Development Accountant, overseeing the budgeting and forecasting for the development and redevelopment of malls and lifestyle centers. His experience included more than 50 development projects amassing over $1 billion of construction.
Aaron received a B.S. in Accounting from Indiana University – Kelley School of Business.
Karen Schutte joined Birge & Held in 2016 after almost a decade in the commercial construction industry. Karen oversees the construction and capital improvements division of Birge & Held and relies on her background to monitor costs, quality, and schedule implementation of capital projects portfolio-wide. Karen is responsible for assembling a network of subcontractors and vendors that will work strategically to improve Birge & Held's construction products.
Karen received her bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. Before joining Birge & Held she was actively involved in green building and has experience in all facets of construction, from estimating, contracting, project management, and business development. Karen received her professional engineering license in 2013. In her free time, Karen enjoys reading, biking, and traveling.
Jana joined Birge & Held in 2016 after spending nearly a decade in the hotel industry. Graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Jana worked for a short time as a front desk supervisor at the Knoxville Marriott before returning home to Indiana. After returning to Indiana, she began a career in accounting and returned to school at the University of Indianapolis where she received her MBA. Combining her two degrees, Jana helped to open the Renaissance Indianapolis North Hotel as their Executive Bookkeeper in 2008.
Jana's current role as Property Accountant involves serving as a direct liaison between Community Managers and the Accounting Department. A large focus for Jana is helping to complete the Month End Financial Reports for each Community. She also assists with various Accounts Payable functions.
Jennifer has held several positions ranging from Leasing to Multi-Site Manager. She joined Birge and Held the early part of 2016 and was named Employee of the Month the following May. She continued to show her talents and quickly moved into a District Manager role. In September of 2017, Jennifer transitioned into the role of Training Director at Birge & Held.
During her career, Jennifer has gained a wealth of experience in the areas of conventional housing, student housing, parking management, and large-scale commercial property management, as well as total property rehab projects and considerable capital spends.
Jennifer has been active in local associations and served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the Tippecanoe Apartment Association from 2010 to 2013. Today she remains active in the Indiana Apartment Association and continues to volunteer on committees each year.
Andy joined Birge & Held Asset Management in 2015, with a primary concentration in sales, marketing, and visual asset enhancement. Andy previously utilized her expertise at multiple management companies in the Indianapolis area, where she generated qualified leasing traffic and reinforced positive resident relations. At Birge and Held Andy specializes in marketing, online advertising, and cultivating a professional media presence. Andy evaluates marketing procedures and outlines effective strategies, in efforts to increase sales and expand an excellent portfolio reputation. Andy is also a member of the IAA's Young Professionals in Multifamily Committee, and the Communications Committee.
Birge & Held welcomed Alycen in 2017, and she has over ten years of industry experience working directly with the Midwest multi-family market. Her expertise in new construction and strategic management will help Birge & Held execute owner and investor goals; as well as contribute to the further growth of the company. Alycen strives to be a part of the overall success in exceeding investor's and owner's desired Return on Investment.
Before becoming a member of the Birge & Held team, Alycen worked for a privately owned multi-family company and developer. She specialized in new construction lease-up, team development, financial review, and capital improvement planning and execution. However, her primary specialty was growing income and stabilizing occupancy on established class A, B and C assets.
Alycen holds a CPM designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). As well as earning a CAPS and CAM designation from the National Apartment Association (NAA), Alycen was also awarded the Grace McFadden Award in 2014 for Property Manager of the Year through the Indiana Apartment Association (IAA).
Jay joined the Birge and Held Asset Management team in October 2017. His knowledge and skillsets achieved from over twenty years of retail and warehouse operations provided a positive transition into an analyst role with B&H.
Key responsibilities include creating and executing portfolio projects that support B&H’s business growth. Analytics at the macro and micro levels are used to develop strategic plans built around the uniqueness of each asset. Jay's Economics degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison contributes to his ability to achieve results.
Dan joined the Birge & Held team as a financial analyst in the summer of 2017. In his role, he assists the finance team by providing market research and analysis, acquisition due diligence and underwriting, and asset management within the Birge & Held Portfolio.
Dan graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington in 2017 with a degree in Management.
